What is PHP?

PHP stands for Hypertext Pre-Processor (a recursive acronym!) PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. PHP is ideally functional for dynamic interaction with mySQL databases. PHP amd mySQL are open source (free) and are in continuing development with input from developers worldwide!

Just how widely used is PHP becoming?

In the five years since January 1999, The number of domains on the World Wide Web using PHP has exploded from virtually none to 15 million! The exponential growth of this language is reflective of its flexibility, stability, security and wide range of functions. PHP is fast becoming the web developer's 1st choice for controlling dynamic web content, replacing other Web scripting languages such as CGI/Perl (common gateway interface) and ASP (windows active server pages).
